“THE MIRACLE OF DUNKIRK” – HOW A NATION’S PRAYERS SPOILED THE PLANS OF THE ENEMY!

To be urgently applied in our present war against the epidemy

It was May 1940, and 300,000 Allied troops were trapped in the French town of Dunkirk.

They were completely surrounded by Hitler’s forces on three sides with the sea behind them.

German High Command boasted that their troops were “proceeding to annihilate the British Army.”

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was preparing himself to deliver the news that more than a quarter of a million soldiers had been captured or killed.

The situation seemed hopeless.

But when the news was reported to King George VI, he called for a national day of prayer.

The British people devoted themselves entirely to prayer for a whole day. Congregations swelled and queues formed outside churches.

At the same time, the military decided to attempt to evacuate all the soldiers it could.

There weren’t enough military ships to carry all the endangered troops, so a call went out asking for the aid of any vessel willing to cross the English Channel and assist in saving the trapped men.

More than 800 vessels answered the call.  And then a miracle took place...

As the allied army in Dunkirk prepared to evacuate, Hitler inexplicably called his troops to a halt. For three days, Nazi tanks and soldiers stood idly by as the Allies frantically evacuated their men.

At the same time, poor weather grounded the German airforce and allowed Allied soldiers to reach the beaches, and the evacuation, without hindrance. The evacuation itself took place on unusually calm seas.

Every single soldier was brought safely home.

To this day, historians are baffled as to why Hitler suddenly called a halt to his advance when victory was all but assured. The German generals themselves were dumbfounded as to why they were not allowed to chase down and obliterate the Allied troops.

The “Miracle of Dunkirk” was just that - miraculous.

It doesn’t matter how dark, desperate, or hopeless a situation seems, and it doesn’t matter how much it looks like the enemy is winning and all is lost - if a nation will unite together and PRAY, we can change the course of history.
